2005 R52 Cooper S Convertible in WV

Year: 2005
Make: MINI
Model: Convertible
Price: $6500
Mileage: 55000
Color: Blue
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (Region): NorthEast

My heart is broken and my wife is telling me "I told you so." We bought this fun and beautiful little drop top last fall. All the check marks were ticked; 6 speed manual, back seat, go cart handling and sunshine.

We've put about 5000 miles on the car.

After replacing the harmonic balancer, I thought I would be done for awhile with the repairs. Before parking the car (in our garage) for the winter, the convertible top decided to stop opening. It's a common problem but I'm not sure I want to invest the time to repair it myself.

So, I'm offering the car for sale in Charleston, WV. I have all the service records from the prior owner.

What are the last 7 of the Vin? This will allow people to check the build specs of the car. Any other issues outside of the top?

Thanks, Jim

Looks great and it looks like a great price.

Before you throw in the towel, check in the trunk to make sure that the latches to lock down the top are in tight and that the parcel shelf is down and installed correctly. I saw a YouTube video on this and a few days later, I could not open mine. Two minutes in a parking lot and I was able to get it working.

Correct on the shelf and latches as they engage the microswitches.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Here is the VIN for the car:

WMWRH33455TF81954

The symptom I experience with the top isn't that the motor doesn't work, but that only one side pulls away from the A pillar. Would that be the same symptom if the latches weren't secure?

Currently, the passenger airbag light is on. Also, there was an aftermarket LED RPM meter on the dash that doesn't work even though it gets power (it looked like a factory install).

These additional pictures aren't the best. Sorry.

Great info,
Barry

Allot depends on how handy you are with a wrench. The ECS guy is a Vert owner and will hopefully chime in here.

The RPM meter looks like the rare factory JCW accessory, not aftermarket. It's interesting the car also has a factory cup holder base on the drivers side downtube. Did it still have the cupholder attached when you got the car?

Looks like it has a body colored factory aero kit, too.

The most popular thought is some sort of convertible specific car cover.

Also Illuminated SILL COVERS!!!!!

Not to seem opportunistic, but I'd be happy to sell the seller/buyer convertible cables for a very reasonable price. Hopefully this helps the sale.

If one side is retracting, that sounds like a broken cable, which are very expensive new. Its not a challenging repair if you're halfway handy.. there are youtube videos for help.

.
To quote Clinton, "I feel your pain." It is really is an attractive MINI with fun equipment.

I wonder if those odd black ***** are attachment points for a roof rack.

Thanks,

sounds like the latch system is only working on one side, my guess is one of the cables pulled out of the latch and they will need a new set of those green cables/latches.

Did they check these first?

Thanks all for chiming in. I'm not sure about the black *****. I'm guessing some kind of car cover as well. I have made no changes to the car. The cupholder base was there but only one cupholder came with the car. I'm still interested in selling but I've been busy lately.
