Rocketman and Superleggera Scratched

Wife wanted a Rocketman so bad when she saw the concept. What a cool little MINI.

I on the other hand thought the Superleggera would be a nice addition to our garage. Reminded me of a little "Jaguar".

But alas, both have be scratched, although there was some rumors that the Rocketman might see some light of day as an EV.

"Bean-counters" nixed both.

Yeah, I liked the look of the little convertible as well. Perfect for Florida. Guess they didn't see it as a money maker. Nice halo car though, in my opinion.

It's Rocketman or bust for me. T minus 5 years, I would guess.

I hope something interesting comes up somewhere by then, a new CR-Z, RX-x, any city car for the Canadian market [we really need to unhitch from the American market, we used to get lots of British Fords and oddities]. I may have to stretch into an Audi TT.

Audi TT's are nice cars, but lack the pep of the MCS. Seriously, I wanted one (actually a TTS). Drove one and it was rather unexciting. No "bliping" the throttle and feeling it in the car. Motor would rev a bit, but nothing transferred to the actual car unless you physically downshift the car to a lower gear. Very disappointing.

I really wanted to love the car as they are "rare birds" and you you won't see your self coming an going when driving. But, I wanted to have some playfulness when driving also, and the Audi lacked it.

That being said, with the revs up, the car was a beast and drove like it was on rails, but to get that excitement, you had to be over the speed limit before you could experience that fun.

If you want a fun car, look at a BMW 2 series (230i) . Mini-like fun in a performance larger package.

I think the only hope for the Rocketman is if BMW decides to use its i3 platform to build it, which means that it will be an electric car if it ever sees the light of day.

It would make a rather "cool", little "grocery getter". I'd still want to see the range get close to 300 miles.
