Solo HK audio weight
HK audio weight
will the hk audio system really add enough weight to make a difference in autox? I'm asking because I think the weight would be negligable. (20 lbs) at most. Which as far as I can see won't make much of a difference. When autoxing my sunfire. Even with a 180 pound passenger the time differences arn't there.
Also the weight will be evenly distributed thruout the car.
Anyone here heard both the 6 speaker system and the optional 8speaker HK and have opinions on quality?

Lighter is always better. but, you have to live with the car. go to the dealer or find a couple of local folks with the regular and the HK system and see for yourself.
I upgraded my system (nothing spectacular) but significantly heavier than the stock system. Having good tunes for the long road trips is important.

I had to laugh when I read this post, because I remember my friend in 1967 who raced his Mustang in what we used to call Gymkhana racing. His car was so heavy compared to the stock Lotus Super Sevens and Mini Cooper S's that he always played the radio real loudly when he raced with the top down. He knew he had no chance, but at least he was enjoying the ride!
Real Autocrossers are gutted, with no interior, extra seats or extra weight. Stock cars are allowed to remove the spare tire and jack and any toys your kids left in the back seat (or at least they used to be able to). You can obsess over 20 lbs., but lets face it, stock autocrossing is meant to be fun, not a dog eat dog competition. Play the radio loud (Born to be Wild works well) and twist it!
