I recently contacted Cravenspeed because of there original (white) retainer clip they offer for there short shift kit. There have been some failures, including me.

Well they generously sent me there new version.

Has anyone installed it? and do you think I have to take the console out again?

We got some of the first ones when they changed the design and I like it. It takes a minute of looking at it to figure out putting it together right, but it works well and I think has a good feel.

 

I would definitely recommend taking that console cover off so you have room to work.

 

Unfortunately you will need to pull the console, as installing the upgraded retainer requires disconnecting the shifter from the linkage. The large retainer piece shown in the picture installs from bottom, so having the shifter disconnected makes this a snap. The shifter and lower retainer are then reinstalled into the car together.
