R56 exhaust

What is the best exhaust sound for MCS R56 ? I have custom exhaust with Manic tuning its sound too loud popping, backfire and annoy neighbor. I am thinking to get CNT exhaust 2.5" any recommendation who has experience about CNT exhaust any any best sound.

If reducing the noise is your objective, then off the top of my head I'd say the Remus or Alta exhaust will teach it some manners. But I wouldn't take anyones word for it as exhaust sound is so subjective from person to person. Google Mini exhaust sound clips. There's a ton of them on Youtube which can help you decide.

CNT is calm but boomy inside at 3000rpm or more. The muffler does anything but that.

I can say by far the Akrapovic is the best exhaust for the R56. It is on the quieter side and some don't like that but like it better as it has no drone and fits perfect. With an aftermarket downpipe it will be louder, but this is what I would recommend if you a good sound, but not too loud. I run it on my GP and it's perfect. It does cost more, but you do get what you pay for and it's worth it.

I left the CNT resonator in place and installed the Vibrant right after it. It still has a nice rumble to it. Do a search on here for Vibrant there are a few other threads

I have a CNT exhaust on my '11 cooper s. I like the way it sounds, not too loud in normal driving. You can definitely hear it at 80 but I don't mind.

I also have the CNT on my 09 MCS. Sounds okay For normal driving. During a recent trip with my wife and a car load of stuff, I had a pretty good drone on the highway between 55 and 60 when the car was pulling up a hill or under a load. All in all, I like it. Thinking of changing the DP on mine with a tune, so I would be interested in your final decision.

I think one thing that should be clarified when describing an exhaust and it’s noise characteristics is what type of DP is installed, i.e, stock, high flow or catless. The choice of cat will make a marked difference in overall sound level and drone. A good example would be the Borla exhaust. With the factory cat the exhaust note is aggressive but with very little drone on the highway. Go catless however, and bleeding from the ears will ensue.
