Steering Angle Sensor and Reset

OK, so I'm getting my 2006 JCW ready to sell and addressing a DSC light and need some experience insight into a couple of issue with it.

Background: DSC light was on, took a light hit on the drivers side and figured I need to start by have the alignment checked.

Took it to my local Tire Kingdom (guys are great there) aligned the car and offered to reset the DSC light. I was pleasantly surprised they could (they have Snap-On computer and said they give it a shot) FYI, they reset it for $25. as opposed to $175 the dealer wanted.

However, it only stayed off for about an hour or four stops.

Here' the question. I have a good used Steering Angle Sensor for a 2006 sitting in my shop but are all 2006 sensor interchangeable? For some reason I thought I read the senors have to be VIN matched in some way. Does anyone know if this is true and what the compatible part #s are?

Second question: Why did the light go out only to come back on? Does it indicate a problem with the Steering Angle Sensor or could it be the front wheel speed indicator (which is new but know connection problems are common)?

Thanks

I will try even I have no DSC hence no steering angle sensor. You said you took a light hit, how hard was the hit, and what was damaged?

Seems the hit caused you to get an alignment, I would suspect the wheel that was impacted and hence that wheel speed sensor is more likely the culprit. Unless the "light hit" impacted the steering wheel I think it is very unlikely the problem has anything to do with SAS. If so the hit is not light.

Lastly I doubt the SAS is VIN encoded.
