What to buy 2007 R56 or 2005 R53

I am current looking at both of these cars. I don't have all of the info on the 2007 yet but I'm just wonder from the experts what would you go for and why?

My experience is the R56 is more refined with less annoying squeaks and rattles. A number of improvements make it less raw. I found the R53 to be quite engaging in spirited driving while the R56 is a better daily driver for me.

Everyone that has either a R53/R56 got their car based on what they wanted, thus every opinion you get will be based on their preference and bias. I have a R53 which I use as a DD. For me, I like the styling of the R53. I've done research that states the R56 is faster, more comfortable, but not as reliable as the R53.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

If the '11 is a JCW or Convertible walk away.. fast. It is the N14 motor. JCW 2013 is fine, as is the convertible.

I thought it was a 2011 but it is an 07 S. Are these problematic?

its a 6 speed manual. So it's got 205000 KM's on it and had lots of work done.Engine looks extremely clean. All of these are new: trans flush, brakes, tires, battery, ball joints, flex pipe, mvi, and control arms.
It probably has the N14 motor so is it worth it?

So if I can find out if it has a new timing chain replacement and vacuum pump would it be worth $5000 to buy or should I go with the 05 Cooper S? The owner says that the engine light is on and off. I would have to put the obdII on it to test.

The 05 (first gen) engine is very strong and reliable. The the 07 has an the N14 engine. As stated above make sure those items have been taken care of. The N14 also has problem with carbon build up on the intake valves. They will need to be walnut blasted every 40k or so. I would not afraid if the N14 it just needs attrition. When it needs maintenance get it done do not put it off.

You need to drive both and decide if you like the Gen1 or Gen2 mini. They are different. I love both for different reasons. I lean to the Gen1 minis. They are very visceral cars and the sound of the supercharger at redline is a sweet song. Also Gen1 great cars to mod. My daly driver is a Moded 02 R53. I have had it 13 years with very little problems. But the Gen2 cars are more refined and have lots of torque. They are a blast to drive also. My other car is a JCW coupe that has been modded also it is fast and fun. Yes it has a N14 engine.

Thank you for the insight. The gen1 is about 2000km away but we have friends where it is and can make the trip. I'll call the mini dealer tomorrow and see if they can get me the records for the gen2. It has had a lot of work and I'd be surprised with 205000km on it if it hasn't had things replaced.
