Oil for factory-fitted Cooper S LSD 'box

Hello,

the 'box going into my Justa for the Cooper S 6 speed swap is BKL-series, post-2005 w/ factory fitted LSD.

Yes yay! But... what oil does it want?!

I am interested in knowing the exact oil factory-fitted to the LSD boxes and it would also be lovely to know more about the "differential grumbling" and the oil used to "fix" it.

Cheers!

I do not know what the factory oil is, but it's likely a Mini branded product by another company. This is what I'm planning on using in mine when I do the change:

I had the manual transmission fluid changed on our 06 R53 with factory LSD. The servicing independent shop,Bavarian Imports in Wichita, uses only oem parts and fluids unless specified by the owner. They used oem SAE 75W80 synthetic fluid part no. 83222339221. Shifts as smooth as butter. Good luck.

Very curious thing....

- If on Realoem.com I search by car and select a Cooper S, both before and after facelift, it reccomends MTF2 but then has a (discontinued) sticker reccomending MTF-3

Furthermore it doesn`t see part n 83222339221 (the MTF-LT3 that afaik is by Texaco) for any Mini if I search by part number.

My personal take is that they went from 3 to 2 when they did the facelift for product unification and light fuel consumption savings....

Still, no information of real interest since it is not specific to LSD boxes, so not really of my interest.

-Looking on the TIS just adds to the confusion:

http://workshop-manuals.com/mini/coo...ids/page_9040/

http://workshop-manuals.com/mini/coo...ids/page_9041/

I see MTF94 for ALL PRE-facelift MINIs and MTF-LT3 for POST-facelift, but no indication for LSD.

Then again, on the R56 & friend MINI I see MTF-LT4 for NO LSD and MTF94 for LSD.

-On a forum that cannot be named () it says MTF94 for all LSD MINI.

-Seems (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-07-non-s.html) that MTF-LT4 is 75-90 and the MTF94 is 75-80.

-PelicanParts says MTF94 for LSD.

-MTF94 has same viscosity as REDLINE MTL

-Redline MT-90 should be 75w90, just a bit thicker.

I think I`ll go for Redline MTL OR get the MTF94 from Land Rover....

Grab one of these pumps as well. These bottles do not fit the normal quart bottle pumps...

^^ or get 3' of 1/2" OD vinyl tubing and a funnel! Pass the tube down from the top of the engine and stick it in the top fill port, have a friend pour 1.75 bottles of Redline 75W80 into the funnel attached to the tube while you lay on the ground waiting for it to overflow out of the fill port! Then pull the tube out of the fill port, stick your thumb over the tube to prevent loss of precious fluid, have your friend pass the bottle down, and let the rest of the fluid drain into the bottle. Search "girl's guide to transmission fluid" for a wonderful writeup.

Redline feels fantastic. A little hard to shift on cold mornings before the transmission warms up, but once its warm, shifts are buttery-smooth.

Got the MTL and will use a funnel. Car-wise I`m really worried for UK leaving EU, their level of true passion for cars (read: DIY and crazy project, not more-washing-than-driving-&-park-at-the-bar) has very little equals in the continent.... my clutch kit is from UK, my new 'box is from UK, the MTL oil was available only from UK...
