I love music. I love driving and listening to good music.

This is my plan (all pieces were removed from my previous car).

I have two DB-Crossfire amps : 1 280w & 1 300w.
I have two DB-Crossfire 12" subs - I'm planning on using only one.

I don't know what speaker sizes are in the Mini. Does anybody have 1) the number of speakers in the car 2) the sizes of the speakers.

I'm planning on replacing the speakers with MB-Quartz.

Does anybody have any pics of custom installs, so I could get an idea? I'm mainly interested in amp/sub configurations and locations.

Oooopss! One more Q.

What type of head units are compatible with the Mini's? I have the steering wheel option where you can control the head unit. I would like to keep that functionality if possible. Would wire splicing be involved or is there an application that has a simple plug and play feature?

Thanks,
russ

I went for the 10" sub fiberglass sealed enclosure in the boot. Made a false floor and hid the amps and cap under that (with a small plexi viewing window).

Here, take a looksy:

Now, as far as what will fit...The fronts are 5.25" components and the rears are 6x9 bass. You can check to see what will fit by going to Crutchfield.com and selecting MINI Cooper for the car, then they'll tell you what fits. I put in some 6.5" Pioneer components in the front (TS-C604) and 4-way Pioneer 6x9s in the rear (TS-A6985). Have 2 MTX Thunder4122 amps running them. A cheesy but powerful and clean Jensen amp runs the sub (Pioneer TSW-254DVC 10&quot. The front speakers will need spacers to fit, as there isn't much rear depth. Do some searching, there's lots on this topic.

As far as compatible headunits with the multi function steering wheel controls goes, I suggest using the PAC SWI-X interface. As long as your headunit has a remote control (IR) you can use this. It's about $60 and programable for each of the steering wheel buttons. I'm running a Sony CDX-CA760x headunit.

Nic setup! I like the look in the boot. Did you do it yourself or had it done by a shop? Very clean looking.

I was thinking of going with a ten in the back, but I have these two 12's sitting doing nothing. I don't think one will be overkill.

Thanks for the speedy reply and the info.

space problem resolved...sort of

The first thing i installed in my mini when i got it in july was a sound system. I didn't want to lose my trunk completely so i fabricated two high density fiberboard boxes that I bolted directly onto the back seats. The subs face towards the boot, and the amps mount directly to the bottom of the box. If i need to use my trunk i can just flip the seats down and the subs and amps go with them. Being able to move the weight of the subs forward also helps the handling a ton by gettin the 80 pounds or so my system weighs out of the trunk and more centered. Currently i am runnin 2 audiobahn Q-!0's through 2 800 watt amps. Plus the 400 watter for my speakers.....nobody expects this much sound from a mini...a total of 2000 watts....gotta love it

I'll try n get some pics as soon as i can...and i can give you the specs on the boxes if anyone is interested...it took me 3 weeks to get the volume right and they sound rediculous.

My BMW

In my 2001 BMW 330Ci I had a huge install done... it was actually intended to be less but the guy got into it and did way more than originally planned (luckily I didn't have to pay the difference.)

The best info I have online at the moment is this Ebay auction which will be around for another month or two:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4550481501

As you can see, I didn't successfully sell it there. Since my BRG MCS had arrived at the dealer I didn't want to list it for another week to see if it would go. I didn't want to trade it with the system if I wasn't going to get anything for it, and if it wasn't going to someone who would appreciate it, so I spent two days taking the equipment out and returning the BMW to factory. Ironically, I got $500 more on the trade after I removed the $10,000 stereo system! :-\

Anyway... eventually I plan to put in a Mini Mac or a Powerbook with 7" LCD touch-screen and some form of this system. If I put the sub box in as-is it would consume the trunk so I have to consider other options. I was thinking of seeing if I could trade the 12" sub for a 8 or 10" one which would leave me more options. I figure I could build a false floor in the boot for the subs, and hopefully modify the kick panels to fit but I'm not sure what to do about the sub yet. I didn't think it was possible to have less trunk space than my BMW had with the system installed, but the mini has less to begin with. So we'll see I guess... Since I watched most of the original install, not only did it help me undo it, but gave me the confidence to do this one myself. But money is tight so it'll have to wait for a while.
