According to the dealer, this is the rear JCW sway bar retrofit that is 18.5 mm. What is the purpose of the yellow paint marker? I have seen automotive springs with different color dots to classify spring rate before- but never on a sway bar!
Included is also a picture of the rear bushing. This only has 9,000 miles ( bar, bushing, links, spring and shock)- but the deflection of the bushing seems a lot. I am told repeatedly that “ they all do this”. Pity about the black paint falling off- time to get under there with some chassis black paint before winter and clean that up.
1. What is the yellow marking paint?
2. Do all RSB bushings deflect this way and eventually cause clicking or noise?
Thanks
Factory RSB accessory JCW 18.5 mm Mini replacement end link Dealer supplied bushing. Ouch that rust! Must clean that up and repaint with chassis black before winter! BMW paint marking on RSB! Why? Koni FSD- I am loving these!
Thanks for posting that link. At first glance under the car, I thought that the bar was rubbing on something!! Glad to see that all the rear JCW 18.5 mm rear bars look that way. What is your opinion on the bar bushings in the pics I posted? Can that amount of deflection be eliminated with a different console bracket, or the brackets that have the zirk fittings?
Welcome. That looks normal for the bigger bar. Think it sets tight. If you get a different bushing it would have to be bigger with a larger bracket. I dont think the deflection is that much of an issue. With poly, it would be a little tighter as the stock bushing have give.
