Extended warranty worth it? 2014 paceman

Hi All,

asking on on behalf of friend. I have a 2006 cooper s cabriolet boutght 2nd hand with no such lovely warranties.

However, she has the following:
Paceman, 2014, non s, automatic.
manufacturers warranty ends Oct 29th.
just got her mechanic to do a 34 pt inspection & says all looks good (just needs news brakes, rotors, filter, etc).

Asking if I (you guys) would recommend an extended 2-yr manu warranty for $4000?

It sounds high to me for 2 years peace of mind. But I have no idea about newer pacemans and if expensive things go wrong often. I'll ask her the cars mileage and update the post. Let Me know if there are other car details you need to make an assement.

Your feedback is much appreciated.
Cheers
Roscoe

Hell no. Especially being a non S, should be less troublesome. $4K is way overpriced for a two year warranty. Bordering on theft IMO. Tell her to put the money into bank account for repair fund and by the end of two years she will have a lot left over.

In two years on our 2011 Countryman I think I spent a few hundred on Vanos solenoid replacement. Other than that it was brake pads, rotors and some usual oil change, coolant flush.

Thanks moocher.

Update:
47,000km (29,000miles)
warranty does not cover services such as oil and brakes.

I agree. Don't remember the last time I paid to extensions and never really needed them.

Cheers biker. Do you have a paceman yourself?

My mother has a 2002 cooper from new, 3 kids learned to drive on it and it's still going strong with no issues - most reliable car we've owned. Is the paceman prone to anything expensive going that you would see fit to extend the warranty?

any other warranty opinions? Should I survey the countryman forum, I noticed it's pretty quiet on on paceman specific forums?

$4000 is highway robbery for sure. Toronto eh! Downtown mini dealer.

Sorry, I have the Countryman All4.

Once I was on the lot, it was hard to decide on which model to buy. Actually spent short of 6 hours walking around, looking and thinking about it. My wife didn't care, but sat and watch me pacing back and forth like waiting for a kid to be born. Like it was entertainment for her. Then I finally sat down to talk deals. Don't want to go through that again.

lol I know what you mean. I almost dropped my cash but I really wanted the supercharger cabriolet and had to go second hand. The mini dealer was 3 times more expensive than others. As long as we are all smiling in our minis it's a good day.

Anyway way thanks for all the replies guys. I have just posted the same question in the countryman forum. Just in case someone had a bad experience where a waranty was useful. See what they say. But I feel the same as you guys, too high!

an extended warranty is simply 'insurance'

one buys/wants health insurance because of the possibility they can not afford to pay for a 'repair', like surgery

one buys an extended warranty on a car if they fear they can not afford to pay for a repair, like a transmission ......

If your '$ danger level' for a repair is low, you might want to buy 'repair insurance'

BUT if your 'repair insurance' costs you $5 a month .... and you never use it ... what if you put that same $5 in an interest bearing account every month for 5 years ......

if you pay the 'extended warranty' and never use it, the $ is lost

if you BANK the money and never use it ...... HELLO $$$$$

bottom line is your cash flow but while IMO heath insurance is ABSOLUTELY necessary ( a simple surgery can run $10,000) a car repair is a couple of decimal places less .. . .

Lol yes money saved. She decided to bank the money: hopefully HELLO $$$$$$ and not HELLO $$$$$ in repairs.

On on a side note health insurance is absolutely necessary....if you live in the states. Here is Ontario, Canada its all free, doctor checkup, surgery etc. unless you elect to do something like laser eye surgery, or want to get a third arm attached to work the gears!

thanks for all the replies guys.
