Borla reviews Touring Vs S Type

Considering an axle back, yes I know I should get the cutback, removing one cat!!

But this is the republic of california!!

Borla 11914 Touring Vs 11915 S-Type.

Sound clips never do justice.
Is the S-Type loud?, does it drone?
Is the Touring loud enough to say I have a Borla!! Does it drone?

I don't want to have people turn their heads in disgust!!
Needs to sound like a classy sports car.

Waiting for VIP to send me clips and info on their AxleBack for $399, looks like
maybe could be a Magnaflow they use?

Magnaflow is a simple, elegant design for sure. Some not-out-to-rip-you-off shops would probably just leave everything else stock and weld in a Magna, if there's one that fits, which I believe there is.

There are some photos floating around, I think maybe in the 3rd gen JCW Garage section, can't remember, where a dude did a magnificent bit of work with valves for a by-pass system. Quite impressive.

THE ISSUE with all of the available systems, besides price, is that a 4-banger is a 4-banger and the pulses are what they are, and thus the acoustical dynamics are always gonna be influenced by pulse frequency.

I had a K&N (yes, for awhile they dabbled in exhausts) on a GMC 4-liter V-6 sport truck -- sounded like a 1960's V-8, sort of a cross between the low Gibson rumble and a 1966 Pontiac GTO.

But the sound that came out of my factory tubes on my 2012 Jag XK V-8 was truly wonderful. No drone, no rice rocket, nothing but burble when it was supposed to burble and roar when it was supposed to roar, and purr when it was supposed to purr.

No hope of getting that from a 2 liter straight 4. I hear Remus is supposed to sound nice, but to me, it still has that rasp.

Some think Dinan has an answer, but why have 2 pipes if the gas only comes out of 1??

Keep us posted on what you discover and what you decide.

I understand its a 4 banger, so were most of the European sports cars of the 60s and 70s, they had a unique sound.
What I don't want is to sound like an Asian import, if you get my "drift"!!
Im not 20 something driving a Honda Civic.

The Magnaflow sounds closest to what I want to hear, but no clips driving, only neutral revs.
Jegs will price match, found one for $423 free shipping.

Waiting for VIP to send me a video of their axle back.

Yeah, PRICE.

Here's the Remus on an F54 both stationary revving and a bit of on the road acceleration sound.

Okay, this is really gonna show my ancient age. I think the engineers at MINI have done a superb job on the factory exhaust note. When I hear a MINI with an aftermarket exhaust, I can't help but think that somebody is trying to make the car into something the car isn't.

A really fine quality tuned exhaust, if it can get the right burble and growl, and purr without the rasp, is nice, and difficult to achieve, IMHO.

Almost everything I've heard sounds like somebody paid waaay too much just to make noise. Like the guys with their straight pipes on their motorcycles who like to rip down the street setting off car alarms as they rattle windows and violate noise ordinances.

Maybe I need to change my handle from 2017all4 to Grumpy Old Man. Or maybe I need to go drill a few holes in my muffler like we used to do in high school, so I can be cool again, if I ever was.....

Pulled the trigger on a Magnaflow. Lets see if Im too old myself.
Megs price matched Amazon at $423 free shipping, at least its fresh stock drop ship from
Maganaflow Factory in Oceanside.
Funny thing Amazon and their spy-bots raised the price in my cart from $423 to $472 overnight.
Good thing they deterred me, I don't trust items like that, from their warehouse shelves.

I assume for $400 you're getting some plumbing in addition to the muffler.

Is it a bolt-on system? 19134?

Do you have a link so we can see what you're getting?

The thing I've always liked about Magnas, in addition to the sound, is clean straight-through design, the quality of materials, and the simplicity of the acoustics.

Do you plan to fire up your car next to my bedroom window early in the morning so I can channel my Grumpy Old Man?
