Removing Front Plate

Hey all, question:

Are there holes in the bumper for where the front plate mounts? I want to remove the plate holder my dealer put on the car, but on my old Civic Si (99), Honda provided body colored inserts to cover the screw holes.

I think the plate holder mounts with screws that go inside the "hole" area on the bumper, and is hidden, but am not sure. Can anyone confirm this?

Cooper or an S? Was your car delivered with the plate or not? If you're still awaiting on delivery are you in a state that requires the front plate?

The bumper for the S does not come front plate ready (no holes or holder) but the Cooper bumper has a cutout of sorts for a euro style tag.

If your car was delivered with a tag already, then yes there are holes in your bumper no matter what model you have.

If you're still waiting on delivery and are in a state that requires the front plate, your dealer will probably drill the holes and mount a plate holder before delivering the car. Some dealers won't mount the front plate or drill the holes if you ask them in advance, others however will do it anyway.

So... you know what to do. Make the plate a part of the contract. Write it on your order and have the dealer sign it. You could then refuse the car if its not delivered as per your specification - easily.

Only if your dealer is willing to do something like that.

If he or she WANTS your sale they will. When people go clear across the country to buy MINI's (with the spec they want or for $) dealer would be a fool to lose a sale over a little thing like this.

Just like a dealer would be a fool to loose a sale for selling their cars for $3 to $6k over sticker? Or the dealer who requires you purchase several thousand dollars in dealer add-ons upon delivery of your new car... And these dealer's continue these practicies becuase they have 3 to 6 months wait lists just to place an order...

Make no mistake, when it comes to MINIs it's a dealer's market. For every customer that walks out of the showroom to place an order with a dealer 500+ miles away, there are at least 3 more customers willing to take there place and accept the dealer's unreasonable demands.

I don't know if your statistics are anywhere near correct. I am certain some people are willing to get screwed, or can afford it and don't really care. But attitude is everything. ...And while I can see these other issues holding up a sale I don't think a plate would. In my own experience I had to wait many months for my car (the way I wanted it) and one of my specifications was that it came with Dunlop performance tires - not the Pirellis. Dealer tried telling me that they couldn't say which tires the car would come with, and therefore couldn't guarantee my demand. I said that they could and should swap wheels with another car - if thats what it would take.

I got my tires AND my car as specified. And I didn't have to pay above sticker.

My MA told me that they would not affix anything to the car at all... BESIDES a "racing crest" that does not display any names or text on the boot. She told me that if i saw it and didnt like it at delivery, they would take it off, quick and easy. Anyone know that this might be, or better yet, have photos?

Patrick

edit: found this on roadfly: "hey SW...me again, the sheild from OTTO'S BMW.located in West Chester PA.
cheers again....
Michael C.
I have a blue and white checkered shield next to my licence plate and don't know what it is from. I ve seen it on other BMWs across on the eastern seaboard, but don't know what it is. My German bud said, ah yeah that means harackaditer, but never really explained me what that was. I would post the picture, but don't have the engery to do so. Does anyone know what I am talking about and what it is?

SW"

I think i know what it is.. .still looking for a picture

edit2: the blue and white checkerboard is actually the Bavarian flag...
