Hi all.
I have a 2010 MCS that has the stock 16" wheels. No money to change them out just yet...but I am almost in need of replacement tires.

Did some research on here, but couldn't correlate the info I needed.

I have the run-flats on now and if I switch to non-run flats, will the cornering suffer since the sidewalls in those RF tires are pretty stiff?

If I go with a slightly lower profile tire (can I?) how far off with the speedo be and would mileage change a bunch?

I commute 80 miles/day all high-speed freeway unless there's traffic.

205-50-16 is 1.6% smaller than 195-55-16 (~1mph@60). Given how far off the speedo is to begin with, who cares?

I'd suggest you do a search, the topic has been discussed to death .. probably why you got no other responses.

I was recently in the exact situation as you on my F57 convertible and its stock 16" runflat pirellis. After considerable study, I bought Michelin Pilot Sport A/S+ in the stock size, i.e. 195/55/16. Although I wanted a high performance summer tire, selection is limited in 16" so I settled on the above. All I can say is the difference is amazing. It's like driving a different car. I can't notice any difference in noise, ride is ever so slightly firmer, but the handling improvement is amazing.

 

I would expect that the turn-in would be a little less sharp with the regular tires. Ride will be better, especially over little ripples. The ride over significant bumps won't change too much, the car is still stiff.

Handling change is hard to quantify. Transient response may be less crisp, but cornering may be significantly better, depending on the tires you pick. Summer performance tires should give you strong handling with minimal reduction in sharpness compared to runflats. The tread compound and tire construction should perform better than the runflats, even though the sidewall won't be as stiff.
