Clutch problems.

I recently bought my 2004 Mini Cooper and I was taking a run up a canyon road and I shifted out of 3rd and lost my clutch. At first thought, I was thinking it was the slave cylinder. I got it turned around and started back down the road and I started pumping the clutch anxiously and it started working again. The problem now is that I get a repeated tap/clunk sound and feel in my clutch. I dont get the noise when the clutch is fully engaged or disengaged. Thoughts?

Could be either throw out bearing failure or slave failure, or both for that matter.

Is this a base Cooper or Cooper S?

Pull the boot back on the slave and see if fluid leaks out, if so; you need a slave. I would start with trying to replace the slave first and seeing what that nets you if that is the case, either way you'd likely need to replace the slave anyway. (Depending on what trans you have if it's a Cooper there are different slave cylinders)

MINI Slave Cylinder

I'd recommend a bottle of quality fluid to go with it as well:
ATE 200

If you've made it past the replacement of the slave and still don't have proper clutch function we also sell full clutch kits, give us a call with more information and we can appropriately decide on what best suites your situation.
