A nice looking car with some nice options but an Auto. Yes not the "better as a boat anchor than car transmission" CVT but the Aisin is still something I would not buy. The car may be a very good car and there are those out there that have had good luck with the Aisin but I would not buy a Gen1 or Gen2 automatic.

Now if you don't have issues with the auto, be sure to check for rust and verify the top works without any hiccups. With the age of the car, would also review; power steering hoses, crank sensor o-ring, belt, belt tensioner, crank pulley and passenger side motor mount.

I've never had a problem with my 06 MCS with the Auto.

 

The only thing I could add: If you live in an area that allows a 6 spd manual transmission. The fun factor is times 5!
It looks like a nice car, but as r52coop says make sure the top works perfectly, as top problems can get real expensive really fast. They can go from so cool, to the pain in the ***, that will cost you plenty of money and frustration! I have a r50 convertible (2008), top works fine, but rear window on the right side has been a nightmare, along with the micro switch on the rear tray.
My daily driver is an 06 MCS JCW.

 

Thanks guys. Auto is essential because it's heading to the US Virgin Islands. Stop & go, max. Speed 35 & lots of steep hills. Going to look at it this afternoon.

 

Decided to pass. I liked the colour but the wife didn't. Had low miles but I suspect they were all city, as a few dings/scratches on the body. Gearbox was HORRIBLE. Hunted all over, revved like crazy in 'Sport' mode, and the flappy paddles worked going up through the gears but not going back down. And the cooling fan was on all the time. Price was way high with no reason. The search continues...

 

Valve body was failing on the tranny, good to pass on. Low speed cooling fan likely pooched as well.
I think you should look out away from MINI for your intended purpose. 128i vert?

No trying to change this thread, but if you service the Asin trans every 50K miles, it will make the auto last way longer. (this from a manual trans guy, with friends that can not drive a stick, where they live in stop and go traffic.)
I would not buy the base model with the cvt trans as they are junk and always fail! I have three in my shop right now!
