How strong is carbon fiber?

It maybe the strongest material on earth, but how will it stand up to abuse standing in the front of a lowered mini?

http://www.jscspeed.com/mini/interior/gtspec_lip.htm

i want to know how long can this lip last sitting in the front of a mini, what about deeper snow? or taking curbs? What i want to know is will it crack the first time i hit the road too hard? or how it'd take the snow i get over here in toronto.... for about 450 it's cheaper than getting the fiberglass hamman real one

Not as durable as plastic. The quality (and hopefully thick clearcoat) may be the difference between one stone or... three I'd watch those curbs the most. Post pics (I've always liked the Hamann splitter).

Carbon fiber can be ten times stronger than steel...depending on how it's made...and ofcorse lighter than plastic...deffinetly fiber glass...LOL...way lighter and way stronger

thanks for all the postive help...

my biggest worry is that it'd crack, and i'd be crying for months i spent 500 bucks on this piece of cf....

quality seems very important as you say... i'd love to find out about it... maybe i can find that GT spec company somewhere

I am sure it will be fine...I mean hold up to what....snow...no problem...I am sure it will even take a hit from a curb....but it can still be riped off...the mounting hardware would let go....also...modify your drving...I drive very hard and enjoy it...but I know around town/city or anywhere i am un familiar...or crossing train tracks I slow way down....I mean to speeds like 15 mph over train tracks...and my car isn't lowered yet...better safe than sorry...I have the aero kit which is lower than stock...entering driveways I go at an angle...etc etc....some people think it's alot of work ...I say it's part of owning nice things....think of it as a game...it accually help your driving....I mean for me...you should always be watching and looking...

all in all it should NOT crack...it's carbon fiber....it should rip off before it cracks....soundsto me like you have owned fiber glass products....that stuffs job is to crack...LOL....

My $0.02: If you're driving into curbs with your MINI, you need brush guards or nerf bars, not aerodynamic splitters!

Please post pics of this splitter, it could be dangerous if there is no rigidity in the structure. If its flat, it will most likely cause you problems. You need to make a rigid shape for CF to really show its strength.
