Newbie looking at a 08 non s sidewalk Conv

Few ?s, how do i know if this car has the dreaded cvt transmission? I ran the vin decoder on her and it says it has the steptronic auto transmission. Is this the CVT transmission? Vin: WMWRF33528TG18493

Don't quote me, but I think CVT was 2001-06. Steptronic AT is more normal AT.

I am thinking the "steptronic" is the Aisin trannie that is not the CVT but was only installed on the S model of the R52. The CVT was the subject of a class action lawsuit as well.

Going to move this to the Stock Problems/Issues section, you should get some more responses.

Steptronic was the name used for the paddle shift option on the steering wheel for both the CVT and Aisin transmissions. All of the non-S auto 1st gens had the CVT, R50 up to '06 and R52 up to '08.

The Aisin is no gem either. It is prone to valve body failure. Buyer beware.
I recommend getting a 05-08 with a manual.
