Suggest you do a search for bytetronik in the Mod - Drivetrain section. It will pull up threads where that is being discussed and you should see what members are into that system. Click on their name and bring up their profile where you will then see when they were last on NAM. Some PMs to them might get you a quicker response.

As your aware Tuning you car is NOT for everyone. Especially when trying to eek out as much power as you can. You run the risk of being "lean" somewhere in the rpm band and burn a piston etc.. Sadly most people will not come on here and admit they did that so your mainly going to hear the good stories and or the not so bad ones.. Just something to keep in mind...

I would love too...I've been looking for options for years. I've tuned a few LS1 motors using HP Tuners, and even an older SBC using MegaSquirt. Tuning isn't that hard as long as you know what you are doing......no different than messing with carb jetting and checking your plugs.

The problem with MINI's is that you don't have many options at all.....none that seem very user friendly and reliable. Plus...."most" (not all) mini owners would rather pay someone big money to tune their car for them because either then don't know how and are afraid to learn and/or they don't even know how to change their own oil.....and tuning is something that they wouldn't even consider.

Think about it.......most mini owners aren't gear heads.....so there is not much need for software companies to come out with tuning options for us.

This applies to just about anything in life.

The problem is when people think they know what they're doing but actually don't have clue.

I'd love to learn, for sure! However, I don't even know where to start.

But I should prolly learn INPA first...gotta get that comfort open via key set up

While tuning in general isn't difficult with some study and learning, tuning BMW/Siemens has its challenges above what most tuners consider to be normal, and it is a specialised skill, that's why many people, me included, have opted to just pay the extra to have someone knowledgeable do it for them.
Personally I have too much money and time in my car to risk learning on it.

Yes, I agree that the BMW / Siemens DME code is a different animals compared to the Delphi/GM stuff......but there are lots of guys (and lots of software options) who are tuning their own BMW M3's out there......and I wouldn't imagine that their DME's are completely different than the MINIs. With good software....it doesn't really matter how weird or odd the code and logic is to control the MINI DME......because the software takes care of it, it does it all in the background so the user doesn't have to worry about it.

Out of curiosity.....what software package do guys like Jan and Way use to program MINI's? I'm guessing it's not Bytetronik.

Got ahold of the guys at Dimsport here in the US. They sent me all kinds of information on the different software and hardware they offer for the R53's........but when I replied back and asked for prices on the stuff, all of a sudden.....they don't want to give me any information.

Kind of strange........

If I remember correctly, when ByteTronik came out originally, someone mentioned Dimsport being in the $10k area.

Maybe that's why they are hesitant to give me any pricing....that's insane!!

HP Tuners for Chevy LS motors is around $500......so use that as a comparison.
