New HU lose nav per Crutchfield

Hello everyone... I'm looking to up grade all speakers on my 2006 mini. It's the basic non Hk radio. I called Cruchfield as I wanted to upgrade HU, all speakers with added amp. The sales person told me I couldn't upgrade headunit without losing navigation? Now, I've done some reading here and it sounds like I would only lose sound of navigation for directions is that correct?

Now hypothetical if that's the case I would change all the speakers and add a line coverter to add the amp while keeping original radio? Just want some clarity as I just got off the phone with Cruchfield and I'm a little Thanks in advance for the help, advice, and direction.

Yes and yes. Also some amps have an option for speaker level input and wouldn't need a line converter.

Nav will still work, but just like you found, the voice prompts won't be audible through the speakers once you change head units.

You will also need to buy a steering wheel control interface like an ASWC from Metra to maintain this functionality with the new head unit.

My son and I did the Polk db6501 and Alpine KTP-445 upgrade instead of a full HU swap. Still debating rear 6x9 as it sounds a lot better already.

You might want to install a speaker to RCA converter if your leaving the head unit and want to install a sub, I have the same issue and will be installing this week. I found one made by PAC for less than $10 on amazon.

excellent let me know how the install goes. I'm still debating if I really need the audio from nav system. I'm leaning toward aftermarket but haven't decided. I do want to add an amp so the feedback is helpful. Thanks!
