R50/53 OBD II questions
OBD II questions
I was looking at the OBD II port on my MINI and noticed on the cover there are three pins that plug into the port when the cover is closed. The following diagram shows which pins are used (represented by the X). The pins are # 7,8,16. Does anyone know the purpose of this “device” on the cover?
I am also looking at getting a OBD II scanner, any suggestions? Is there anything out there that does the airbag system, ABS system, etc? Is there anything that will allow you to change the Programmable Features?
Thanks in advance.

Also is there any scanners that are MINI enhanced? I have found lots enhanced scanners for Ford, GM, and Chrysler but nothing for the MINI. Is there any sensors that a generic OBD scanner would not pick up (no need for a MINI enhanced scanner)?

Anyone know what the thing in the OBD port cover is?
OK I took some pics to help me explain what I am talking about. The first pic is the port, the second the cover. Notice the three prongs in a "L" shape. Does anyone know what this is or what it is for?
