A General Question About Titles

I just moved to Connecticut (from PA, if it's relevant) in July. Shortly after arriving, I went through all the rigamaroll to get my car's citizenship (liscense, registration, title) changed over to CT.

Well, I just received my title in the mail and at the top, where it goes through all the vehicle information (make, model, yadda yadda yadda) it lists my car as "used".

I purchased the car spankin' new, so my question is this: Is the "used" designation just given to prevent me from trying to sell my car as new since I have, in fact, "used" it? That strikes as a pretty silly scenario, given that only someone REALLY STUPID would take my (almost) 2 year old car with 38K+ on the odo as "new".

I know nothing of titles -- is it a mistake that my car is listed as "used"? Or is that normal? As I own him outright, there are no liens on the vehicle.

I used to sell cars and one of the veterans told me that a car is considered new when it has never been titled before.

Some states may have different definitions of "new" in regards to mileage.

In MD the first title given to the car considers it 'new'. Since transferring title from state to state is basically the same process as transferring ownership of the vehicle, in some cases the fact it was titled previously, even by you, will deem it as being 'used', even though it is 'used' only by you. Each state does things differently from the others it seems, so I would get in touch with the DMV and see if indeed that was the proper way the retitling was handled in your case.
