Gotta love the bride. She buys a car and keeps it. Her 2004 Beetle Turbo Convertible has sailed past 100,000 miles and she was looking for something new...

She looked at a Mini Cooper S... too many miles on it though. But... after a search, I found her a sweetie. 2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman All4 (that is a mouthful) 6 speed manual, dual roofs, etc. 41k on it. Obviously a "garage queen" too. Front right was "curbed" but that will be repaired. Whistle clean CarFax and service history too.

Got it for roughly $2000 off "book" too (I sold VW/Porsche/Audi for 5 years... I know all the games).

We'll pick it up later today. It'll be nice to have it in the fleet.

Maybe. Dealership is playing games. If I were buying it, I'd kick 'em to the curb and look for another. But the bride is more patient than I am...

We signed the paper for about $1500 under Carfax estimate. Now they want a "deposit" to hold it until Saturday. Mind you, were where there for 2 hours last night, no mention of a deposit.

 

Whoa... should have checked their yelp ratings. Through the cellar and into the sub-strata bad. Yeesh.

It's a clown show for sure; they just faxed over the sales order. No options on the Mini, no nothing... and the bank came in short... told the dealership to fax the window sticker (in the car) to show all options clearly.

We'll see. SWMBO is type A extreme. She's all flustered by the entire process. Me? Zen master. Told her to slow down, breathe through her nose, and be in the moment. You can only fix what's in front of you.

I sat with SWMBO in the F&I office. I sold Porsche/Audi/VW for 5 long years (3rd circle of hell) and know a few things. We took nothing from the stealershp, er dealership.

Buying cars does suck - it is the reason I got out of the business. I sold VW/Porsche/Audi for a long 5 years. It is not so much sales, but the management and F&I office that blows. They want to nickel and dime you every time.

All total, we spent like 6 hours of our life buying this Mini - it should have taken 45 minutes.

Spent the morning pairing her phone, figuring out the radio, and such. Blows that it won't Bluetooth tunes, but, hey, it's better than my Audi TT in that regard. Phone is paired, and we'll get a cable so she can listen to Pandora or whatever she wants. Next is a rear hitch mount - we will go with the one that mounts in the tow hook spots, then get a bike mount. At 5'4" she can't put one on the roof.

 

Here is a shot of SWMBO All4 at the dealership. Front left wheel is a little curbed, and the power port in the back is "pushed through" we have a "WeOwe" from the dealer to fix it...I'm going to hold 'em to it too.

 

Very nice. I've never had an issue with the We Owe stuff.
Heck one of our minis had a 30 day we fix all kinds of crap policy. Ended up with a new entertainment module!

SWMBO loves it. Got to ride in it yesterday for a couple miles, to a Superbowl party. I only drove it during the original check out until my wife drove it. We've turned her 104,000 Beetle Turbo Convertible into the official "dog car".

I want to take it out in sport mode and see what the 1.6 Turbo will do At 181hp, it's exactly 1hp more than her Beetle. My TT Quattro Coupe is 225hp, but doesn't really spool up until about 3000-4000 RPM.
