Custom Exhaust

Although nice pieces, the cost of these cat back exhaust systems seem pretty high. Has anyone built a custom setup? I'm pricing out pieces with rough dimensions and can't see materials costing more than 2-300 depending on setup. I'm debating between a single muffler with dual tips or putting in a Y and running 2 separate mufflers. Any thoughts?

Well I think "cat-back" on a R60 might as well just be an axle-back. Some of those are only $350 or around that, so it may be quite worth it to just buy one...NICE tips alone cost $50-60+

I'm looking to go from DP back though. Would like to do 2.5" with a high flow cat and resonator plus muffler.

Ah gotcha... Yeah that is another story like you said. Seems like a Y with separate mufflers would be a little more efficient than side-loading or U-bending into a single, but I dont know the logistics of it back there.

Looks pretty simple to do a 90* split and then another 90* towards rear of car to go straight out. Can probably get away with some 60* bends as well. I'm going to start mocking up this weekend but was hoping someone had some insight on any possibly snags. Tunnel looks big and plenty of room in the rear with that big A muffler removed. I'm also thinking the 2 mufflers may keep droning away better than a single. I'm envisioning a setup like this magnaflow.

I'm looking forward to where this goes! been thinking of doing a custom system myself simply because I want to be a damn snowflake, haha. But I have the resources to bend & weld my own exhaust so I plan to buy the material, maybe get some mufflers from Japan (I spend 1/3 of the year there for work) and see what kinda sound I can make.

Not to get off topic but does anyone make just muffler deletes like what Nameless does for the JDM vehicles?

*IF* it matters to you, most shops will only do crush bends. Purchased kits are typically mandrel bent. The pictured example appears to be a rather sharp crush bend. a little hard to tell

sometimes you can get pre bent stuff that was mandrel bent. although once Y'd off, I don't think it would matter

I've been browsing a few sites and found Mandrel Bending Solutions. They offer a nice builders kit in a few material choices for a nice price. They do lack the 90* Y I am looking for though. As I look more at the aftermarket options, I see a few subtle bends that I may have to take to a shop but there might also be clearance to leave it straight. This project has also gone to my back burner as I'm getting tuned sooner than expected and need to get my FMIC sorted. Many say the stock decatted pipes are fine for the stock turbo anyway. I'm still going to pursue this but at a slower rate than originally thought.

Does anyone know what type of offset this resonator is called? It looks very similar to the small bend we would need to clear the rear diff. without needing to get the straight pipe bent.

Changed up the exhaust today. First clip is milltek catless dp in sport mode with intake and jb+. Second clip is secondary cat and resonator replaced with straight pipe. Sounds mean, spools faster and pops like a **** in sport.

Yes, first is just catless dp. Second is catless dp and no secondary cat or resonator

I was catless on my old Subie and after two years of swapping back to stock for emissions I really would rather just get a hi flow cat and not deal with it.

Why not just go with the scorpion. I have it and love it. https://www.scorpion-exhausts.com/mi...xhaust-systems

That system is in the same ballpark as everything else. By the time you add shipping it's $800+. I have my parts priced already and will come in at $400 including all pipes, flex, resonator and 2 mufflers. Local guy said he would weld for $100. It's a gamble on sound but with a resonator and 2 mufflers, at worst it's quiet haha

Exhaust

I bought mine from here. http://www.bavauto.com/shop.asp?HC1=...Countryman%20S

Shipping was only about $50-$75, plus they matched this price

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/Perfo...duct--962.html

This brought the price down so in a sense I got free shipping. Just a 2nd option for you. If you search the Countryman Facebook page I posted sound clips there and on the LXM Facebook page as well.
