Air Bag/Seat Belt Light

2006 MCS. Air bag and seat belt lights have been on for 6 years with no ill-effect beyond irritancy. To dealer twice including matt recall without resolution. Dealer wants to put in a new computer component for > $1000. No go.

All I want is the idiot lights off. I do not care if they work, since they don't "work" now. Does anybody have a workaround akin to "taking the idiot light bulbs out of the dash" of yesteryear?

Sheesh. The dealer did the airbag recall and the light is still on?

Ask them if there is a person you can contact to complain to.

Then tell them you will be contacting the NHTSA regarding the recall.

I then posted a complaint on the NHTSA automobile recall web site. I did this on my Mercedes and it didn't help so I bought the repair parts myself and installed them. An NHTSA guy later contacted me and asked for the parts, etc.

Then later, the dealer came back and said it was covered and paid for everything.

Good luck,
Peter

It depends if its the passenger harness that was the reason for the light. If that was changed, then the airbag light shouldn't be on anymore. Did you ever get it scanned to see what the reason for the light is?

The dealer went through the whole system and found no fault; and by exclusion determined it to be some $1000 computer module. At first, dealer further said my vehicle was not included in the recall; and the computer module specifically was not covered in the recall. I had it there twice over a 2 year span.

Hmm thats strange, if the airbag light is on, there would be an srs code. If you want you can take off the speedo and put a piece of electric tape covering the light. I'm going to do that for mine.
