R60 Countryman S All4 ball joint removal

I need help removing the ball joint so i can have more space to pull out/in the axle shaft.

I got the two screws out and the nut. I had a ball joint separator but no luck

Is it disconnected from the strut already?

It looks iffy to do, but you could back off the bottom nut flush with the balljoint 'screw' and hammer upward...just dont want to bugger it up.

EDIT: with those two large screws out I dont see why it wouldnt separate from the spindle?! maybe it just needs some hammering to break them loose?
Ive not done it, just looking at pictures

No it is not. i have the axle removed and it isnt easy putting back without at least freeing the spindle. I removed all the bolts attached to the ball joint and i did see this picture yesterday while googling...lol..i tried to use a separator but it seemed either stuck or tightly fitted. I tried tapping it with a mallet, but didnt seem to move.

Seems like loosening and maybe taking the strut out of it would help if that lower BJ wont come out. Really seems like the two screws would do it but I dont know what the top of that BJ looks like...if it recesses into the spindle too ect.

Tapping the BJ out of the LCA would be another 3rd option I guess....but its probably in there good.

Yep...big recess

That is likely what is gripping the spindle...pry and hammer but dont mess it up too much...might break free

yes, it recesses into the spindle. unlike R50, R52, and R53, there is no access from the top end to push the BJ out. worst come to worst, i will free it from the strut. i hope it is enough clearance to get the axle in.
