I'm thinking of adding these ducts to my '06 JCW aero front bumper for track purposes, but would like to keep it STX legal:

Per 14.6 C: Air ducts may be fitted to the brakes provided that they extend in a forward direction only and that no changes are made in the body/structure
for their use. They may serve no other purpose. Backing plates and dirt
shields may be modified or removed.

These seem like they could be borderline on 2 fronts: 1) extending forward only since they turn in about 90 degrees at the rotor, and 2) making no change in body/structure. If they fit the fog light opening with no cutting is that considered no modification, or is removing the fog light itself (and likely wiring, etc) considered a modification? I'm also not 100% sure they do fit the aero bumper without cutting, I know they DO require modification on the non-aero bumper.

 

As long as you are only going to local events, nobody will notice or care.

Good points, I've been wanting to run a Pro Solo for a while though. Granted the car probably isn't prepped enough to have me near the top of the pack anyway.

 

I'm wondering if installing brake cooling ducts is even worth it if you're just getting into solo / auto-x.


Also, solo / auto-x runs are usually quite short. Sure, the brakes warm up, but nothing like they would if you were lapping at the track. Do you even need brake cooling? Unless you're doing all your runs back to back with little time for the car to cool off (?)

 

they wont do much of anything for auto-x

for HPDE they make a big difference if they are setup right

 

No the ducts aren't for autocross at all, they're for HPDE, but I would also run the car in STX at auto-x events.
