Rear brake wear sensor light wont go away

So I've been fighting an intermittent yellow/red brake light and service light. The code is 071 which apparently is the rear brake wear sensor. So I replaced the sensor, the light came back on after I hit a bump in the road. I took it all apart, replaced my brake pads(they weren't close to needing to be replaced but I was upgrading anyway), and I replaced the sensor again(thinking it could have been faulty), then I reset the light. Voila! Light was gone.. 30 seconds of driving, I hit a bump, the yellow brake light comes back on for the sensor. I even took one of the old sensors and twisted the wires together with some shrink wrap, a slight bump in the road continues to cause the light to come back on.

make sure the sensor is pushed all the way in the pad. it should lock in place.

This has been done. I am currently running with the one that has the cut off end wired together and still having the same issue after resetting the light. It's fine until I go over a bump in the road. I am wondering, could it be a relay, fuse, or even possibly a break in the wire farther up.

mmmm, if that happens again (driving over a bump and the light comes on), did you try to reset the service without actually touching the sensor?

Yes. I've done it a couple of times just to assure that's the issue. The last drive I had I drove for around 5 minutes before I hit a big bump in the road that always seems to trigger it and sure enough the light popped back on.

i think the wires goes all the way to the fusebox or ECU. do you know if the front one is also doing that?

No issues with the front sensor at all. MINI replaced brakes and rotors all around about 6 months ago too.

It sounds like you have a damaged wire somewhere between the rear connector and the computer. You will have to inspect the wire till you find the failure point and do a repair.
