R50/53 An Offer to Trade
An Offer to Trade
I work for a group of chiropractors. Today, thanks to a defunct schedule, I arrived for work a half hour early and was filing some stuff (absent any patients to electrocute) in back when 2 of the doctors came in. Doctor A. informs me that he and Doctor B. have a serious question they've been meaning to ask me. I'm new, so I nod meekly and await something, well, serious. Instead, I get; "Is that your blue MINI Cooper in the parking lot?" Feeling my proverbial oats, I point out that that is, in fact, My MINI Cooper S in the parking lot, lest we overlook the supercharger. Turns out they know it's an S, and that's what initially attracted them: they both want one, but are apparently "tied" to their present vehicles for some time to come. They had just spent the past few minutes looking into the windows, trying to determine whose car it was. Doctor A. then informs me of "A little known office policy..." whereby doctors get to test drive the cars of their staff. Doctor B. asks if I've any interest in a BMW, shaking his keys. Doctor A. Asks if I'd be interested in a Lexus, jingling his keys.
I am told that they will each require at least 10-15 minutes of personal test-drive time to make an adequate assesment of the vehicle. I am also told that, due to my love of toys and speed, I will fit right in to the office...

Hum.......well.......it depends on if they just want to test drive or actually trade for a couple of days. How bad do you want to test drive THEIR cars? Whatever they drive, you can always test drive at a dealership if you were really interested. The real question is - how do you feel about somebody else driving your car??? And do you get to go along...

If you decide to let them do it, suggest you go along so that you can explain the many features they may overlook. Had to let my brother-in-law drive my MCS so I could get him off my back for driving a car smaller than my wife's Tahoe.

This always works.

So far as I've been able to ascertain, based on vehicle brand names, the cars are a 528i and the Lexus SUV cross-over thingie. Not terribly interested in either but... I will let just about anyone drive my car. It's all part of my grand scheme to convert everyone on the planet into small car drivers...
I am distressed, however, that they were peeping in Ollies windows when I haven't had a chance to clean him in the past 2 months, half the seat was down to accomodate a friends luggage (from last weekend; I'm lazy) which allowed the garbage bags full of Goodwill-bound clothing in my boot to be seen from the cabin. And then there's the matter of the S'Mores bar wrapper presently under the clutch, pages upon pages of directions to various job interviews scrawled on the backs of envelopes, and, of course, the detailing brush sitting in my cupholder because I am OBVIOUSLY very interested in the tidiness of my car at present...

At least it's just Ollie that they want to "test-drive," right?
LOL!
I like the test-driving of the Aspen Condo idea, too!
Toastie, now you know that as an ambassadress of MINI-dom in your sector, you simply MUST get the litter and crappola out of Ollie ASAP! Tsk tsk tsk! LOL!

Either they would like to:
(1) Do a trade, with possible $$ adjustment to boot, or
(2) They just want a free test drive.
Definitely don't let them be alone test driving your car. And the 528, while a nice car, won't be so much fun (plus, it's a high maintenance car)
Now, an outright sale would be another thing. Then you can get that 2005 MCS (with thicker windshield and no yo-yos)

Clo... I *think* it's just Ollie they want to take for a ride! But now that you mention it, perhaps I'll just hand over the keys and let them ply the back roads of CT on their own...
Ollie will be cleaned out ASAP -- I promise. I've now seen the dangers of allowing him to wallow in my own filth for prolonged periods...
You know, I was just thinking the other day: Kelly Blue Book says I should be able to get $20K (or thereabouts) for my car. The MCS convertable I just configured to spec is only $27K. That's basically a new car for $7K -- That's a Hyundai. A Daewoo. And now, if I sell the Lexus and the 528, I stand to make money on the deal!

Sounds like a great work environment.
I love getting electrocuted at the chiro. It is sooooooo nice. Although one of those things wigged out on me once and it was quite a "shock"
(pun was unintentional)

Okeefe, that sounds like a deal NOT to pass up!!
I have a standing 'deal' to swap cars with one (a couple, actually) of the local Mini owners; I've never driven a Mini, and they've never driven a MINI. We have yet to actually do the swap tho...

Another Ollie?
Did someone say there's another Ollie out there? Mine is an IB/W S; he's actually Ollie Jr. 2nd MINI--my first Ollie was an LY/B MC.
Both of them British & always landing me in "another fine mess".
Hence the name...
