Twurbo R53 - Sitting for 4 years, what to do first?
Hey Everyone.
Last month I was given(yes for free), a 2005 Mini Cooper S. The previous owner didn't have time for it anymore, and had been letting it sit in his drive way for about 4 years. It has the Alta twurbo kit, Alta top mount intercooler, Alta hpfp, 3" Alta exhaust, apex neo system and 540cc injectors.
Getting a new battery this weekend, but dont want to try and turn it over right away, figured all the fluids are either gone or sludge at this point. So that will probably first, fluids and plugs.
New to the Mini scene, any other ideas that I should look at before I try and turn it over.
Thanks.

Alta made a turbo kit that can be added to the supercharger system, keeping the pulley and adding the turbo

And fluids first for sure! Thanks.

That would be better known as a "Twin Charge" kit.
They were notoriously hard to tune with the OEM ECU and in reality not as good power wise as a straight turbo swap, the S/C ended up being a bottle neck in the intake system.
To the O.P., as far as the fluids, 4 years isn't really that long for synthetic fluids, I would just change the oil, antifreeze and gas, and replace both the fuel and oil filter of course.

1. Check spark
2. Check fuel pressure at rail
3. See if it works
You got it for free - if it doesn't work and doesn't look like a simple fix, I'd rip every bit of the Twurbo, header, etc and replace with mostly OEM to get it working(maybe keeping injectors & exhaust). Then consider ebay'ing the removed stuff to recoop money. Unless you just enjoy pain.
Good Luck

very interesting, like it has been stated, fluid that old isn't terrible, but should be replaced, the biggest thing would be when you do the checks, when running keep your eye on that AFR meter....
