Belt tensioner dampner removal question

Do I need to lock the tensioner before removing the dampner to replace the bushings?

You can just pull the tensioner shock off. That is how we do it when we install our WMW delrin bushings. You don't even have to compress the tensioner.

Awesome, thanks Way.

By the way, I have your set of tensioner bushings in my tool box. I should have used them when I replaced the tensioner assembly 30,000 miles ago.

I was very lucky, rattling noise suddenly got louder so I took a clise look at the tensioner bolt near the firewall and I was almost able to slide the end of the dampner over the bolt.

I just did a damper replacement and a 13mm ratchet wrench really helps to speed up the process----there is little room for fingers and no room for a socket/ratchet. As Way says you do not need to detension the belt. Which bushing went out ---the top/away or the bottom/close to the belt

I took the wheel and fender liner off to acess them.

Both bushings were toast.

That's pretty normal for those old bushings.

If the bushings are that bad the shock is probably done.

I compared the shock with a new one and the pressure is about the same.
