Hi guys,

Have a 2012 Cooper S with 40,000 km. Today I was about to drive in, for winter storage. The car was parked outside and temperature was around -2C throughout the day. After starting the car, I got three warning light back to back:

1. Increased battery discharge (This i have been getting for the past three weeks, because I haven't been driving a ton). I usually re-charge and it goes away.

2. Low engine oil pressure (in red) warning came and car seemed to be mis-firing/exhaust did not sound smooth. The message said to stop the engine.

3. Engine reduced power

I simply moved the car back in the garage and while I was doing that, the car did feel jumpy a bit.

I checked the oil level, and that seemed to be ok. I'm guessing, there are some serious problem? May be one of spark plugs is dead?

The car is still under warranty. But wanted to get some opinions here. Ant thoughts?

Take it to the dealer, on a flatbed truck, don't drive it.
You have a warranty, use it.

 

I second that.

If your oil changes are up to date with the correct oil and oil filter, it should not give you a low oil pressure indication even at that low ambient, and you should be good with the warranty.

What oil and filter are you using?

What warranty cover do you still have on your 2012?

 

The oil light is a big deal. If there is a warranty, by all means use it. You should have oil pressure provided you're using an appropriate motor oil. Loss of oil pressure is one of the few things that can kill an engine immediately!

Could be a bad oil filter or something restricting oil circulation, but this is nothing to mess with.

 

Turned out that the there was no engine oil drain plug, when they lifted up the car. Good thing is that I never drove it and got the car towed on the flatbed. It beats me, how it fell off, because there were no signs of oil leaks anywhere. May be someone try vandalize the car. Everything is back to normal now. phew!!

 

I know how it fell off... it wasn't torqued properly!
holy cow... NO OIL If you didn't see any oil where those lights lit up, you've been OUT for a while!

 

A good reason NEVER to disregard an oil pressure light. If you see one, pull over, park it, and have it taken to a repair shop.

 

could be the oil pressure sensor. My CMS All4 had the light even though the level was fine. replaced and never saw that light again.

 

The OP found the problem already.

 

Oh wow...that is the last thing i would check...although if you started adding oil you will SEE the issue staring at you on the drive way
