R50/53 Passenger airbag light
If the airbag sensor is disconnected at any point while the battery is connected, it throws a code that can only be cleared at the dealer. The sensor was probably bumped during cleaning, or they removed your seats without disconnecting the battery.
I made that mistake this summer when I disassembled my interior, still haven't gotten around to getting that pesky light off.

If it is the overhead passenger airbag off light (not the airbag warning light in the speedometer or Nav), there is a safety recall for it:

You can take your VIN and see if you car had the seat sensor mat replaced under recall if you go to http://www.miniusa.com/content/miniu...rt/recall.html
I was just detailing a R52 I bought and the light went off when I was cleaning under the seat. I knew the recall had not been completed when I bought so scheduled an appointment at the Mini Dealer and when they replaced the mat, they also cleared the light.

Start with reading what codes are stored for the MRS system, then clear the codes, if they come back then worry, but chances are that they either got knocked around or the seats were out while the key was on under the circumstances.
Some OBD2 diagnostic tools can reset the airbag warning, but generally not basic OBD2 readers. Many shops have an airbag reset tool.
However, if it's the passenger occupancy sensor mat (the safety recall), it can't really be reset. The warning light might go away by itself and come back unpredictably. It's almost as though there's a broken wire that can disconnect and reconnect as the seat is disturbed. You might try just getting in and out of the passenger seat and see if that changes anything. It is a real safety concern. When that light is on, the passenger airbag will not deploy.
