So the video attached is the noise that I believe is coming from the exhaust and so I didnt know if there are any other possibilities of what it could be and some ways I can fix it for as low cost for now but just hoping I can find the source of the problem quickly!

yes I had just got home from work and it was very dark out I will right away in the morning..It really sounds and lookes like its coming from the pipes up in the lower middle of the car I am just hoping its not the engine/supercharger or the transmission/gear box...it is the R53 2002 Cooper S and is manual

 

It sounds like its coming from somewhere external to me. I would be thinking exhaust clamp/hanger or one of the splash guards is loose or broken and vibrating against the under carriage. Have you hit any bumps hard or pulled too far onto a curb recently?

 

nope, I will say that since me shocks are old and the suspension is super hard it could of just been from the 130,000 miles and it is a little rusty but nothing major at all. I did just put a stock exhuast from the cat on back so all that is good so it must be from up front

 

ok so feel pretty stupid right now but kind of relieved (although my daily driver is going to be out this weekend) but when I first got this mini the guy had a straight pipe exhaust so I found a stock for cheap but didnt have the straps that held it on so I had a friend quick weld some together....so one failed and so the muffler was hanging on one side and must of twisted everything enough to make exhaust leak from where the exhaust connects in the front because I used the car jack to hold the one muffler, started the car, everything is back to normal.

I just hope that that was the cause of the ticking sound on the freeway when accelerating or staying at a steady speed. (no noise when coasting)

There is an upper and a lower set of straps for each muffler. Each are sold individually.

I purchased a lower strap since the one on my son's car was broken when we purchased it earlier this year. Easy repair and not too expensive.

Autohausaz or ECS or Pelican will be able to get you one. Pretty common failure from what I researched.

 

We've got the upper and lower clamps in stock, as for an exhaust; I'd recommend either a Milltek or Stratmosphere kit.

 

So, you're saying that it cracked where the cat meets the exhaust? That is a pretty common area to fail on these MINI's. You can weld it back up as a cheaper option or upgrade to an aftermarket/performance option. If you decide to weld, make sure to inspect it closely to make sure this is indeed an option for the crack. You might be able to also source another used one that may be in better condition than the current one at www.car-part.com.

My exhaust is ok I have a pretty nice stock one but thanks I plan on keeping my mini for a long long long time so in the future I will definatly look into some performance parts...for now I need to keep her running!
