Alternative Tricks For Removing Stock Shifter

I just don't currently have the energy to pull up on the shift **** as required.

Any other trick, method? I don't need to save the **** either so it can be destroyed if need be.

Start by releasing the base of the shifter boot from the center console. Then pull it up over the **** as fat as you can then tap under the **** with a rubber mallet or even just a normal hammer. It should pop off without too much strain on your part.

Hang on, I''l get some pics

1st lift the boot

Then using an 18mm wrench place it like this under the ****

Then tap it with a hammer like this on. Note that teh wrench should be here but I couldn't hold the wrench the hammer and the camera at the same time

and off she comes no sweat

Do I need to take anything off under the **** once I've pulled the boot over?

Thanks.

I think the tool you are using is only applying force to one side as opposed to evenly on opposite sides like my wrench did. Mine came off pretty easy.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the assist.

Finally got her off but not after destroying the base of the **** by sawing off the clips, no biggie.

However, the Billy Club did not slip on - sigh - double sigh.

It looks like you got more than just the ****. The black plastic piece should have remained on the shifter stalk.

Not for my purpose, I just need a bare stick.

The car will never go back to stock.

Now to find a proper sized heat shrink for the gear shift.

Here's the finished look.

I used black shrink tape. I think they have it in red, blue, white and green. Heck if you're creative you can use multi-color to express yourself
