R56 P0599 after water pump replacement

I have an engine code that came on after I took my car to the mechanic to have a new water pump installed. Not sure if it has to do with the new water pump or is it pure coincidence that it happened 3 days after I had it done.

I got the pump replaced because I thought it was leaking water, turned out it was a hose but the pump was replaced also.

Could this be due to the pump replacement (not sure which part he used, probably aftermarket)?

Where is the thermostat? Is it visible without taking anything apart?

what is the year of your car and is it turbo or base? the thermostat is part of the plactic housing on the side of the engine head. almost underneath the air pipe going to the turbo.

It's a turbo, is it #5 (temp sensor) that I am looking for?

i was referring to #4, but #5 is cheaper to replace and see if that solves the issue....another way to test sensors (this is my special way of doing it..secrets of the trade) is to remove the plug of the temperature sensor and see what code comes up, if the same code is still present, then you have pointed to the issue. if a new code comes up, then you verified that the temp sensor is ok. then move to the other plug on the thermostat housing and do the same

So looks like my temperature sensor is connected therefore it must be bad, I looked online and it looks like it has to run at about 11.2 ohms (is this correct)?

Also is there any way to replace just the sensor or does the entire housing need to be replaced?
