Wait for the low brake sensor to replace?

I'm a little confused. I know that at some point, if the sensor trips I'll need to replace the brake plus the sensor. But is there an intermediate stage where the sensor can be reset, then it's time to do the brakes?

I was inspecting my brakes this weekend and saw a couple pads were wearing low, kinda near the sensor. But a couple were OK. These are new to me, so I don't know how close is too close. Know what I mean?

Pad thickness by measurement is the way to go. Uneven wear should be investigated. Sensors are cheap so trying to save them isn't a consideration for me. Not sure if this answers your ??

Yea, I think it does. My main question was do I get a "hey, it's time to change" light, or do I just get a "hey, you're screwed, you needed pads yesterday" light. Still, I think the sensors are $10 each? It's one of those annoying things I'd rather not pay for if I don't have to. Also, I guess I'd rather not have to pay for new pads if I have some left. They're uneven because they're probably not lubed correctly. I've been lazy.

Brakes

Here's a handy application guide that may help:

Info on the brake light reset and sensors:

Hope this helps!

Once the light comes on the sensor must be replaced. I used to try and change the pads before that happened (because getting access to the connector plug can be hard) but have given up on that strategy because (1) frequently the sensor can not be removed from the used pad without breaking, and (2) no sense in replacing the brake pads any sooner than necessary. Still many miles of useful life after the light comes on.

be aware the sensors are prone to breakage while removing from the old pads, so you might end up replacing them anyway
