16" track wheel and tire setup

Hi All,

If you read my post on the swaybar quandary than you already know that we've really been enjoying the F56 at the Track Night in America events. After brake upgrades and burning though the oem tires followed by destroying a set of Bridgestone Pole Position S04s, we're ready to take the plunge on dedicated track wheels and tires.

Tire Rack has a pretty good deal going on some Sparco Asseto Garas in 16"x7" et 48mm. They are light and cheap. The thought was go with 215 45 16 or 215 50 16 but the selection is pretty limited. BFG Rivals are available in the 45 aspect ratio as are the Azenis RT615k. The impression I got on the Azenis was that it was more of an AutoX tire and not good for longer runs. I think Direzza Star Specs would probably be the best fit for our application. Keep in mind we are sharing a car so each track day, the tires get double duty. The Star Specs however, are only available in 205s.

Does anyone have any thoughts on a dialed setup for our purposes? I'd like to keep the per tire cost down to $125 each because we are really only getting two events out of a set.

Thanks,
-Ed

I run 16x7 Enkei Racing RPF1 with ET43 on my R53 with 205/45R-16 re71-r on them and I love them, I might go 215 once I kill these

only done AX on them though, first track session later this month

I also have some 949racing 15x8's with 205/50/15 RE71-R's and I think these are faster, at least they feel better to me. I could fit 225's on this, I might go to those next

15s will clear the brakes? I though 8" rims would rub the struts on this car or require alterations to the wheel arches depending on the offset/backspacing.
