Sticky/Gummy door handle

Hi all, I have a 2013 mini Cooper Saturday Coupe. Recently I noticed the door handle inside rubber/plastic lever (driver side) is sticky/ Gummy to the touch. I tried wiping it down. With a cloth and some hand cleaner - thinking there might have been something on it. But it didn't really help.

Is there some cleaner/conditioner I could use? Or do you think it's just deteriorating and needs replacing?
Thanks

Aren't ninjas supposed to be problem solvers? You tried one substance and quit? If one didn't work I'd have the whole collection of household cleaners out of the closet and try every one. Another possibility is that someone is messing with you. That lever just doesn't get sticky by itself. One cleaner that is rarely mentioned that is really good for removing adhesives is WD-40. Try it too.

lol, thanks

I wanted to see if there were any specific product, before just throwing anything and/or everything at it.

seems that the hand cleaner (anti bacterial) worked some - much better now. I have been reading that isopropyl alcohol works well. I will pick some up at the pharmacy.

A short story on problem solving: Abt. 5 years ago, I bought a common household/kitchen counter type cleaner. I used it up and was reading the back label. It said to dispose of the container when empty. It also had a list of the ingredients; alcohol, vinegar, water and a surfactant. I just happened to have some of each and threw a bit of each into the bottle substituting Dawn for the surfactant, shook it all up and have been doing so ever since. It works great at cleaning up all kinds of messes...and I'm still using the same bottle. Give it a try.
