When did the diameter of the fuel door change?

I have a 2013 S R57. I have a black jack trim on it and recently found stickers with that design that are designed to go on the fuel door. I ordered one that according to the website I got it from was supposed to fit my model.

However, when it arrived, I discovered the diameter of it is an inch larger than the fuel door on my car. The sticker is 6.5 inches in diameter, while the fuel door on my car is 5.5.

I did additional research online and quickly discovered that all the MINI fuel door stickers I could locate anywhere were of that larger diameter size, albeit all classified as fitting "all" MINIs . Which leads me to suspect that at some point post the 2013 model year, the fuel door size was increased. Am I correct, or is some plant in China simply punching out thousands of incorrectly sized stickers?

Bumpity-bump. Anyone have any idea of why the 5.5" diameter of the fuel door on my 2013 R57 is an inch less than the stickers being sold online for said doors?

Have you asked the people you bought it from?

Can't you trim it?

The same fuel door was used through the entire production run of R57 (2007-2015):

Interesting, again my 2013 R57 is a second gen but has the "smaller" gas cap door you show as a first gen feature. My car is due for an oil change later this summer and when I'm at the dealer I will bring up this "gas door diameter" subject and see what the say.

The vendor sold you something that is the wrong size. Product doesn't work as advertised. Shouldn't you be talking to them instead?

Unfortunately, the sticker I received is not the typical thin vinyl variety. It's about 1.25 mm thick and has a rounded edge, so if trimmed it will have a noticeable exposed "rim."

And thanks for the info on the R57 run. Do you know if the fuel doors on all the second generation vehicles were the same, or were the R57s different? If the former, I can't understand why the aftermarket producers and sellers of these stickers are oblivious as to the proper dimensions of the fuel doors on thousands of Minis currently in use.

I did contact the seller and they are letting me return the sticker for a full refund. Interestingly, in my communications with them I mentioned the fact that my fuel door is not unique and is installed on thousands of Minis, asking them what specific models of Minis the sticker was designed for.

They did not address that in their response to me.

OK, finally realized I had the tools to create what I wanted - a properly sized fuel door sticker. Found a perfect graphic of a round Black Jack symbol online, copied it, pasted it into Powerpoint, resized it to exactly fit the second gen 5.5" fuel cap door and then printed it out on white background decal paper. Let that dry for a day then gave it three coats of auto clear coat. Here is the finished product applied to my car:
