R50/53 JCW Exhaust - Rear Section Only?
JCW Exhaust - Rear Section Only?
Hi All,
I have seen bits and pieces of information regarding this, but no clear/definitive answer.
I am looking at adding a JCW exhaust to my R53, and am wondering if it's feasible/advisable to install only the rear section. Can it easily be connected to the stock mid-pipe? I seem to recall that the standard R53 mid-pipe is not resonated, so it may not even be a compromise.
Is that correct? Are there any downsides? What hardware would I need to connect them?
Thanks in advance!

Yes you can. I installed a JCW exhaust on my mini by cutting off the stock mufflers. the JCW exhaust will slide over it. you will need to get a muffler splice clamp from the local auto parts store or order the JCW part from the dealer to hold the 2 together. I just purchased a R53 JCW and I don't like the mid pipe resonator. it is so quiet it sounds like stock. I will be swapping out my stock mid pipe from my other R53. The JCW exhaust with no resonator will give you a nice burble at idle and low RPM and no drone and quiet on the freeway.
That's great info, thanks! Is the splice clamp just a generic part, like this? https://www.amazon.com/SmartParts-12.../dp/B0043DSGX8

Yes, Similar. The one I purchased was not a butt splice clamp like you have linked but a seal clamp that matched the 2 different diameters. one for the stock pipe and one for the JCW muffler flange that the stock straight pipe fits into. I could have just gotten a single like in the link above which is the JCW piece. but easily purchased at local parts house. you want to get the band clamp type. there isn't much clearance for the other U bolt style.
