Works kit upgrade w/ larger injectors...

As posted on Motoringfiles, the soon to be released upgrade kit for the 04'/03' Works kits will include a set of larger/different injectors (together w/ software upgrades.)
-It sounds as though the 05' Works package will also feature the same new injectors & modified SW (w/this constituting the only differences betweem the 04' & 05' Works package.)
-Given the already rich and ample fuel supply why would different injectors be the critical focus of such an otherwise marginal 05' Works upgrade?
-Also why did JCW stick w/ the stock throttle body & standard issue intake? (if indeed they did.)
-What ever the engineering logic, the upgrade is intended to be good for an additional 10HP (torque?) but at what cost to fuel efficiency?
Thanks!

I don't understand why you would upgrade the injectors with the JCW. Although these cars want lots of fuel to make power at the top end. But I can't see a whole to be gained with a 13.8% pulley. 17% to 19% yeah, 13.8% I'm not sure.

Injectors are a critical part of the horsepower and torque equation. They are not just a hole in a rod that squirts fuel - they are specifically engineered precision devices to atomize the fuel in a way that promotes efficient burning and power generation. The shape, size, and material of the injector aperture are all pertinent. I am told that some use synthetic ruby or other exotic materials for the nozzles. I am sure that there is a lot more to it than just "bigger injectors." Considering that Mini went to the coated supercharger blades to cut down on heat, the new injectors may also be designed to effect combustion temperatures. Hotter is more efficient, but rquires better cooling to keep things lubricated.

The ’04 Works Kit does NOT include larger injectors. The only part that is different from the pre 12/03 Works Kit is the “Head”. This is of course because there was a production change to the post 12/03 cars.

As for the materials used in the injectors, this is primarily for cleanliness, so that particles in the fuel do not stick to them thereby maintaining a proper spray pattern. It is true that a lean mixture can produce higher combustion temperatures. Changing the injector size however would not be required to unless the ECU could not control the injector dwell sufficiently to maintain a Stoichiometric ratio.

I really don't like the idea of new injectors for a 210hp setup. From the graphs that I have seen the JCW kit runs fairly rich already. Although this does keep the engine cool, I don't think the JCW rated 210hp kit would need more fuel.

The other important aspect here is that they were targeting a $500 upgrade for earlier kits. Add injectors and what else gets you to their $500?

Something is wrong if the 2005 kit will have injectors and ONLY get you to 210 hp. If it got you to 220 I'd be all for injectors as the mixture might lean out enough to justify them.

Seems to me that the 10 hp increase could have been obtained by a more aggressive ECU remap
