oil leak right under turbo on 08 MCS

Hey guys, I have an oil leak I found right under the turbo, near where the boost tube is, when I remove the boost tube from the turbo to check, I found oil reside there. And you can see the oil going down the boost tube from the turbo. I can confirm that the oil line and coolant lines on the turbo are bone dry. I have a catch can installed by the way. I wondering where are the oil leak from? Thanks.

Is your oil filter loose maybe?

The only areas you normally fine oil leaking from these turbos is near the bangobolt that the oil feel line mounts to and the past the metal seal going into the catalytic converter. Your oil could be squirting out of the oil feed line onto the boost tube, it could also be the oil filter housing gaskets and or the heat ex-changer gaskets that share both coolant and oil channels.

The fact that you can see oil building up on the wastegate actuator would lead me to believe your oil feed line is leaking, which would also be a great time to fix the probably also leaking oil filter housing gasket.

Oil Leak

Since the oil lines and coolant lines at the turbo are dry, we don't have an easy answer. The banjo fittings on the oil lines are the most common leak points.

Oil residue down the boost tube is a strange place as there is no easy way for the oil to travel from the banjo fittings to the boost tube.

As another poster mentioned, I might suspect the oil filter module or the heat exchanger.

Thanks guys for all the inputs, appreicated. I also thought it is a weird spot to see oil residue where under wastegate actuator. The thing is like I said the oil line on the turbo is dry (the banjo fitting too). So other than the oil line itself, no other part of turbo will leak oil?

I'll look into oil filter housing gasket and the heat ex-changer gasket, just thought they are far apart from the turbo, so I didn't think of oil will travel from those spot to underneath the wastegate.

I've seen a turbo with bearings bad enough to cause oil to leak and buildup in the compressor housing, which will leak out the bottom and cause a similar leak pattern.

That car also had quite a bit of oil being blown by through the PCV system, which is usually and indicator of worn piston rings.
