Like an idiot, I was adjusting the hood latch today after having the engine apart and closed the hood with the hood release cable still disconnected. Any ideas or suggestions on releasing the latches without using the hood release lever? Do you have to go from the front of the engine or from under the driver's wheel well? Luckily, I had the coolant expansion tank hanging loose so that may be to my advantage.

 

In case this happens to anyone else or the release cable snaps, I was able to open the hood latches using a coat hanger from under the car. Make a small hook on the end and grab the wire between where it enters the latch and connects to the mechanism. Very fiddly. I was able to accomplish it in under an hour once the car cooled off from driving.
