Reset key not working

My MINI was off the road for a couple of months. I replaced the battery and had to reset my keys. I reset one key by inserting it, removing it, holding down unlock, and pressing lock three times. This took a few tries. My other key will not reset no matter how many times I try. Can someone affirm the key reset method and suggest anything I might have missed? Is it possible this key is dead?

Go drive a bit...use the key for an hour...charge the battery...
Then try it...
About 10 years seems to be when many of the rechargeable batteries in the keys die...
But use it as a "basic" key for a few days, then try to repair it to the keyless entry...
But honestly, might be time to do some "key surgery'" or buy some new ones if you want too keep using keyless entry.

Edit...you just did a battery swap...maybe check it with a voltmeter...make sure the install went ok.

Zippy is partially correct- you may not have had to re-pair your keys. Just using each for a couple of days may have charged them back up (your keys have rechargeable batteries) and had them working again.

When you re-pair or "reinitialize" a key it apparently deletes the other keys unless you do your additional keys before you terminate the procedure. Here is the page about this on a great site about MINI keys:

Thanks, everyone. I had to re-pair both keys at once, which I didn't know. Now they both work. I appreciate the responses.
