Paint to match silver interior trim color?

The silver interior handle area and center console down tubes on my 2002 Base model need paint. Has anyone matched a paint to this silver? These parts appear to be a matte finish unlike some other trim pieces in the car.

Thanks!

Just buy new ones from ECS Tuning. They have a huge sale on them.

For anyone that is interested we found a paint that matches well the matte white-silver finish found in various places on the Gen 1 Mini. Attached is a picture of the can. After painting we sprayed a matte clear coat on it. It made the color a little darker but still very close.

Is that the 'dull aluminum' color?

Here's a picture of the label.

And the painted grab handle. It was worn through to the plastic in places. My son masked everything off and painted it.

Has anybody found a match for anthracite? The gloss looks like dark silver, but the Matt is different. I ordered a new speaker surround and it did not match the rest. I just bought a new to me mini but it has alloy patina but I like anthracite better for the accent pieces rather than flat aluminum.

Hi Joe,

Did you wet sand prior to painting? And which portion(s) did you paint in the attached picture? Red arrows only?

Thank you,
John

Yes, the areas marked by the red arrows, and the end on the other side of the arm rest. I wish we would have taken a before picture.

1st- Cleaned it with 91% Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). This actually started to take the remaining paint off. Maybe a lesser percentage would have been better?
2nd- Sanded it with 600 grit sand paper- dry because I didn't want to get water in all the crevices and wait for it to dry. Then wipe it all down with alcohol again.
3rd- mask it, then wipe it down again (not much on the cloth so the alcohol didn't bleed under the tape), then paint.

Local Oreilly's had to order the krylon dull aluminum paint 1403.
No one locally(San Jose) seems to have Krylon 53530 Flat Acrylic Crystal Clear.
Has anyone used any other Flat Clear Spray?

I used 70% Isopropyl alcohol but even that started taking paint off, so stuck to just wet-sanding using 800grit

Here's my before and after pictures for the drivers side. Needless to say I am very pleased! Thanks Joe!!

Need to find the Clear Coat and work on the passenger side next. Also, I did not separate the door pull. I just covered up everything with old newspaper and masking tape. The door pull is still intact/attached to the door

before

after(without clear coat)

This might be to late but just to help the paint adhere to the plastic you might want to use a Clear Adhesive Promoter like: Dupli-Color CP199 Clear Adhesion Promoter Primer

This is very important for things like the bumper covers and the like.

Motor On!

Resurrecting an old thread here, but curious if anyone found a paint to match the anthracite interior pieces? Picture of the trim color attached.

Is that the the only part you need to touch up?

If so, you can get a brand new anthracite shift ring from ECS for about $15 before tax and shipping.

I wish. Besides the shifter ring, the cup holder covers and door handle bezels need some fresh paint. I would rather not buy new ones if I could find the appropriate paint color, but I appreciate the suggestion.

Thank you,
Bryan

Unfortunately - Krylon has discontinued the Dull Aluminum 1403 and has no substitute. Has any found a decent replacement paint for the silver interior Gen 1 paint ?
THX

Silver interior or anthracite match - HereYaGo....

I posted this answer in a (lengthy) previous thread/discussion a while back. Sorry 'can't find the link right now.
However:
The correct color match for silver is: WURTH SILVER WHEEL PAINT. (Yes it also matches the silver interior trim).
The Best (if not exact) color match for Mini factory anthracite is: Tesla STEEL GREY METALLIC (PMNG).

Hope this helps to answer future inquiry searches
EDIT: BTW - Try not to go nuts (apply heavy) when painting the (anthracite) = Tesla Steel grey metallic - PMNG. You will kill the metallic and the paint will appear to darken. 2wo nice even coats will suffice. Let the (layers) of gloss clear or matte coat handle/provide the protection.
