My 2004 MCS came with an AFE cold intake system installed by the prior owner.

It was filthy so I cleaned it out. BUT, I can't tell if it's an oiled or dry filter. The part number, and even the CAI unit itself, does not show up on the AFE website. The filter part number is 60-90056, which shows up nowhere.

It has red rubber with a white/grey fabric behind the mesh screen. Their website makes it sound like a dry filter, but elsewhere this looks like one that should be oiled. Called AFE, no one there. Must be after business hours. Anyone come across this type of filter?

Looks like a FABRIC K&N STYLE gauze filter to me....
Might be be a custom k&n like comes with Dinian kits....
Don't think I have ever seen a dry gauze filter...the dry filters are usually foam....and then there are oiled and dry foam ones.

Foam usually looks...like....er...foam...

 

that's a paper filter of some sort. could be dry, could be wet, if theres an oil residue especially on the inside, its a wet filter. bone dry everywhere, it may be a dry filter
