Hi All,

My 2003 MCS is getting close to needing a clutch. I'm thinking about picking up a good used 2005 or 2006 6MT to swap in when I do the clutch job (for the shorter gear ratios, which I think are much better matched to the car). I know it has been done before, but I'm not sure if I need anything else besides the transmission.

Nothing else needed than whatever you should change when doing the clutch. I did this three weeks ago. Externally, the boxes are the same.

 

Excellent, thanks! I read somewhere that the cruise control doesn't work after the swap? Is that true?

 

I thought the cruise issue was going from a CVT to manual on an R50...

 

I would also verify if the shift cables are the same. I know there are 2 different shift boxes. but the cables might be the same.

 

Interesting. Mine quit working after the swap. By the scanner, it shows I have a bad button. Thought it completely unrelated but now I'm intrigued. Where did you read that?

I'll ask my local MINI specialists if there's something they can reprogram in the ECU to fix the issue. Should be.

Quick question: How much does the transmission/transaxle weigh? Like 200lbs?

 

Im sure someone knows how much, but my guess is 95 pounds or less. Its much closer to 100 than 200 lbs

 

Not sure what your concern is with the weight but from when mine was delivered it was able to be carried, I would say less than 200lbs. Cost me $150 to have it shipped.
