My daughter just got an R56 Mini with 16" wheels and she wants spare wheels with snow tires for next winter. There is a set of 16" R84 wheels with snow tires available about 60 miles away in Denver.

I have heard that wheels are not interchangeable between Gen 1 and Gen 2 minis because the lug bolt diameter changed. I am having trouble finding specs on the R84 wheels. Does anyone know whether they will fit her R56?

 

Gen 1 and 2 both use 4x100 lug pattern. Gen 3 uses a 5x112.

 

I've read a couple of places that The R56 / R55 take an M14 bolt, whereas the Gen 1 cars may use M12 bolts. That's my concern...not the bolt pattern, but the bolts diameter, 12mm vs. 14mm. If the R84 wheels use M14 bolts they should be OK.

 

After another half-hour of research, it appears that the R84 wheels are a 2nd generation wheel, so the lugs should be 14MM and match my daughter's 2011 R56. I thought I'd add that note in case anyone searches for this info.

 

Yea, its a Gen 1 4x100 wheel that people have use on gen 2 4x100, both 12mm and 14mm conical head bolts will fit all 4x100 MINI wheels.

Old thread, I know. Based on the above I picked up a set of R84's with 225-50 tires and they fit great on my 2010 Camden R56.
