I saw two 3-door 1.6L Audi A3's this morning on my way to work. Both had distributor liscense plates.

I liked the A3 a LOT in person. This only makes me want an A3 Sportback even more when the time comes.

Nice Scoop Dave!
I dunno about the styling; it's pudgy and mad-looking in front, thick and early-90's VW in back. Doesn't the rear remind you of a mk3 Golf? I suppose for those that want an "anycar", this should work for them.

Overall I really like the A3 quite a bit. The new A3 seems to be a better replacement for the MK4 golf than the MK5 golf. The A3 didn't strike me as plain at all.
Another benefit of the A3 is the interior material quality. I'm ready to be a dash stroker again.

I like it. A lot. And I'm insanely happy to see that they didn't stick the new huge chrome ring or whatever the hell that thing is that encompasses the grille and drops down into the bumper that the rest of the range seems to have.
I really like the new A3, quite a nice upgrade from the old version. I test drove one in Switzerland in June briefly- the handling and brakes are certainly upgraded from the old A3.
I had many old skool A3 rentals in Denmark, they were good car's- but nothing special-

Surely, you don't have a dash fetish? Yes you can say it (don't call me surely).

You'll have to click on the photo gallery page to see it, I can't link to it.
Audi's A3 with the 3.2 VR-6 will be the "executive" version of the VW R32. It should be an awesome ride when it gets to our shores. Looks like the next time I take our A6 in for service, I'll have to take a test drive.
